In Australia, 23 amazing actions took place in every state and territory at the following locations.
New South Wales: at the Sydney Opera House and Tanja State Forest, and at stores in Parramatta Rd, Sydney, Lismore and Coffs Harbour. Victoria: at forests in Toolangi and Goongerah, East Gippsland, and at stores in Preston and at the QV Building, Melbourne. Australian Capital Territory: at the Woden and Fyshwick stores, Canberra. Queensland: at the Queen St mall store, Brisbane. Northern Territory: at stores in Darwin and Alice Springs. Tasmania: at stores in Hobart and Launceston. South Australia: at the Woodville and Rundle Mall stores, the Adelaide Town Hall and the Festival of Ideas in Adelaide. Western Australia: at the Osborne Park Perth and Bunbury stores and at the amazing blockade in Broome.
Globally, 18 spectacular actions took place at Harvey Norman stores in Auckland and Wellington, Aotearoa (NZ) and Novo Mesto, Slovenia, and at iconic locations in Hollywood, Los Angeles USA; Oxford and Bristol, England; Prague, Czech Republic; Toronto, Canada; Kerala, India; Gent, Belgium; Johannesburg, South Africa; Goteborg, Sweden; Stoettwang, Germany; Milano, Italia; San Telmo, Argentina; Valparaiso, Chile; Bogotá, Colombia; and in solidarity from the massive protests happening right now in Washington DC, USA.
On 7 & 8 October, 40 spectacular actions took place in 16 countries around the world as part of a global 24 hours of action targeting retailer Harvey Norman for their role in helping to drive the destruction of Australia’s native forests.
‘Hundreds of people across the planet have taken action today to tell Harvey Norman that profiting from Australia’s forest destruction is absolutely unacceptable in this day and age’ said Ula Majewski, spokesperson for The Last Stand.
Images from actions were still streaming in from around the globe on Saturday afternoon, but in a diversity of locations – including Ontario, Prague, Auckland and Bristol – hundreds of people took action for Australia’s native forests.
‘From the sails of the Sydney Opera House to the forests of East Gippsland and from the World Cup stadium in Johannesberg to Harvey Norman stores in Wellington and Auckland, the global community have stood up and said No Harvey No! Stop selling Aussie forest destruction’ said Ms Majewski.
‘Harvey Norman needs to take urgent action for our spectacular forests and stop selling furniture and flooring products sourced from native forests. There are readily available alternatives such as recycled and plantation timber’ said Nicola Paris, spokesperson for The Last Stand.
