The Forests

We love forests. They provide habitat for all kinds of creatures, including many that are endangered. They store carbon and filter our air and water. Most Australians want to be able to show them to their children and grand children. And they are pretty good looking.

Yet they are still being chopped down at an alarming rate to line the pockets of a few. Australian retailers are profiting from the destruction of our dwindling forests by selling paper, furniture and building supplies made from native timbers.

Australia’s forests are some of the most carbon dense in the world. In this era of dangerous climate change, the continued obliteration of our globally recognised forests is short sighted environmental vandalism and needs to stop now. Ditto for products that come from rainforest destruction in places like Indonesia.

Environmental damage and making a buck don’t have to go hand in hand.  There are other options.
